| Obverse description | Central field features a small equal-armed cross with splayed terminals set within a plain raised inner circle, creating a pronounced annular border. The surrounding outer border is filled with the retrograde or irregularly formed capital letters of the legend +BVRCHARDVS, arranged around the circumference in the crude hammered style typical of Ottonian-era Swabian coinage. The flan is irregular and somewhat ragged at the edges, consistent with hand-cut planchets of the period. The relief is low and the die engraving is bold but unrefined, reflecting the provincial workshop character of the Breisach mint. |

| Reverse description | Central field displays a small equal-armed cross set within a plain raised inner circle, similar in style to the obverse type. The peripheral legend OTTO MPERATOR (for OTTO IMPERATOR) is distributed around the outer border in large, somewhat irregular Latin capitals, referencing the authority of Emperor Otto I. The flan edges are uneven and clipped in places, characteristic of hammered silver deniers of the mid-tenth century. The overall design follows the standard Carolingian-derived denier format, with the imperial title asserting the dual authority of duke and emperor over the Breisach mint. |
