Obverse description A heraldic lion passant facing left, rendered in relief within a beaded or rope-twist inner circle, occupying the central field of the bracteate. The lion is depicted in a naturalistic yet stylized Romanesque manner, with its tail curled upward and its body in full stride. The broad, slightly concave flan is characteristic of thin bracteate coinage of the Lower Saxon region. No legend or inscription is present. The design is attributed to the reign of Duke William of Brunswick-Lüneburg.
