Obverse description Frontal bust of an archbishop in pontifical vestments, wearing a mitre and displaying a stylized fanlike or rayed collar below the chin, with a central boss or brooch at the chest. The figure holds a raised sword vertically to the left and a palm frond or staff to the right, both issuing from behind the shoulders. The bust rises from a semicircular arch or crescent form at the base, representing the city walls or an architectural motif. Fragmentary Latin legend characters appear in the field to either side of the figure. The design is struck in high relief on a thin, uniface silver flan characteristic of bracteate coinage.
