Otto V ruled Schaumburg-Pinneberg during a period when bracteate production in the northern German counties was already an anachronism — the thin, single-sided striking technique had been effectively obsolete for over two centuries by the time this piece was issued. That it was still being produced here into the 1560s reflects the stubborn conservatism of small territorial mints operating outside the pressures of imperial monetary reform.
The Münzvertrag of 1559 pushed most northern territories toward thicker, standardized Groschen coinage. Schaumburg-Pinneberg's continued bracteate output after that date is the numismatic anomaly this piece represents.
