Additional information

Mieszko III ruled Greater Poland twice — driven out in 1177 after provoking the nobility and clergy, then restored and expelled again before dying in office in 1202. This bracteate belongs somewhere within that fractured timeline, almost certainly struck at Gniezno or Kalisz, the two principal minting centers of the duchy. Bracteate production in this region was a distinctly Piast innovation for the period, single-sided fabric coins that could be struck rapidly with minimal silver, ideal for a polity constantly managing the costs of dynastic conflict.

Kop#95 is a recognized type, but die variation within Mieszko's issues is substantial and attribution between the two mints remains contested in specialist literature.
