Obverse description Facing enthroned figure of Landgrave Hermann I seated on a wide throne, holding an upright sword in his right hand and a diagonally outward-waving banner or flag in his left hand. The enthroned figure is flanked on each side by a domed turret, with two stars appearing in the upper field. The entire design is enclosed within a pearl or beaded border. Four stars and globules or spheres are distributed around the field, with a two-letter inscription 'A V' interspersed among them. The composition is rendered in the characteristic thin, single-sided bracteate style typical of Thuringian coinage of the late 12th and early 13th centuries.
