Obverse description Within a beaded border, the ornate baroque shield of Württemberg — bearing three stag antlers — is centrally placed within an elaborate cartouche with scrollwork and foliate mantling. The shield is rendered in a decorative style characteristic of early 18th-century German bracteate coinage. The initials C · A · H · (Carolus Alexander Herzog), denoting Duke Charles Alexander, are distributed around the shield within the beaded circle, serving as the sole legend.
