Obverse description A bold cross pattée centered within a plain inner circle, rendered in high relief typical of bracteate striking. The arms of the cross are of equal length and display slightly expanded terminals. The design is contained within a slightly raised border ring, and the overall field is plain and unlettered. The flan is thin and irregular at the edges, characteristic of hammered bracteate production.

Additional information

Issued under the Teutonic Order's Prussian administration during the grand mastership of Winrich von Kniprode, these bracteates circulated alongside the heavier Prussian schillings as the lowest denomination in a carefully tiered monetary system the Order used to fund both its military campaigns and its extensive Baltic trade network. At 0.11 g, the dies had to be cut with exceptional delicacy — even minor striking pressure could split the flan entirely.
