Obverse description Centrally placed Teutonic shield bearing a plain cross, the escutcheon set within a pointed oval border. A trefoil or shamrock ornament appears above the shield's chief, serving as the principal decorative device. The overall design is rendered in low relief typical of bracteate coinage, with the motif struck on a thin, uniface flan. The field surrounding the shield is plain and unlettered. The design reflects the heraldic conventions of the Teutonic Order during the early fourteenth century.
