Obverse description Single-sided bracteate struck in thin silver, displaying a stylized lion passant in low relief, rendered in the characteristic schematic manner of late medieval Lower Saxon bracteate coinage. The lion, facing left, is depicted with boldly curved body and simplified limbs typical of the Brunswick heraldic tradition. The design occupies the entire fabric of the flan, surrounded by a raised border ring. The thin, uniface nature of the piece causes the design to appear in mirror image on the reverse as an incuse impression.
