Obverse description Bracteate type struck on a thin silver flan with a lobed outer rim. The field depicts the Brunswick lion passant to the right, rendered in a schematic medieval style, with the head turned frontally toward the viewer. Above the body of the lion appears a stylized cluster of raised pellets or globules representing a cobread (Kobread), a civic heraldic charge associated with the city of Brunswick. The design is contained within a beaded inner circle, with the characteristic irregular, scalloped edge of hammered bracteate production visible at the periphery.
