Obverse description Central device depicting a hand issuing from below, grasping an episcopal crozier with a voluted head, set within a plain inner circle. The composition is rendered in a bold, somewhat crude Romanesque style typical of early 12th-century French feudal coinage. The surrounding legend, partially visible due to the irregular flan, reads BVCARDVS EPSV, identifying Bishop Bouchard of Meaux. Letters are large and broadly spaced within the outer field.
