Reverse description A large ornate cross pattée with small pellets or annulets at the terminals of each arm and in the angles between the arms, filling the entire field in a decorative arrangement typical of early Piast deniers. The surrounding legend BOLESCL (or variant) is distributed around the cross in a retrograde or irregular manner, consistent with the hand-crafted nature of hammered early medieval coinage. The overall design reflects Ottonian and Bohemian numismatic influences prevalent in early eleventh-century Central European coinage.
