Obverse description Central cross with a pellet or bezant at the center, flanked by four bezants in each angle of the cross, all enclosed within a beaded inner circle (grenetis). A continuous Latin legend encircles the design in the outer field, reading the name and title of Duke Berthold. The overall composition is characteristic of mid-10th-century Carolingian-derived coinage from the Duchy of Bavaria.
