Obverse description Central field displays a large architectural or monogrammatic device, likely a stylized letter or symbolic emblem, enclosed within a plain inner circle surrounded by a beaded border. The flan is irregular and shows the characteristic broad, thin fabric of 11th-century feudal hammered coinage. The overall relief is low and the strike uneven, typical of medieval workshop production. The legend BERN.A.RDVS, referencing Viscount Bernard, runs around the periphery in rustic Latin capitals, partially obscured by flan irregularities and edge chipping.
