Obverse description Within a beaded inner circle, the Christogram monogram XPI surmounted by a horizontal bar occupies the central field, rendered in bold relief characteristic of Carolingian-derived hammered coinage. The monogram is flanked by additional letter elements in the field. A circular Latin legend surrounds the beaded border, reading outward toward the irregular coin edge. The die work is typical of the Milan mint of the mid-tenth century, with robust but somewhat crudely executed lettering consistent with the period.
