Reverse description A facing bust of Saint Peter is depicted in high relief at the centre of the flan, rendered in the schematic Romanesque style typical of late 10th-century papal coinage struck at Rome. The saint's face is shown full-face with stylised linear features, framed by hair indicated by incised lines and a simple nimbus or head covering. Abbreviated elements of the dedicatory legend appear in the surrounding field, identifying the image as the Prince of the Apostles and patron of the Roman see. The irregular flan edge and variable strike pressure cause portions of the peripheral legend to be weakly impressed.
