Obverse description Central field depicts a plain cross pattée enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with two annulets (small rings) flanking the upper arms of the cross in the left and right fields. The surrounding legend is contained between the inner beaded circle and an outer beaded border. The overall design is typical of feudal French hammered coinage of the late 13th century, executed in a simple, bold style consistent with provincial billon deniers.
