Reverse description Central design features a plain Latin cross within a beaded inner circle, dividing the field into four equal quadrants. The cross is bold and extends to the inner beaded ring, a hallmark of early medieval French feudal deniers. Surrounding the inner circle, the circumferential Latin legend reads TVRONVS CIVITAS, preceded by a quatrefoil or star stop, identifying Tours as the place of issue. The lettering is boldly struck in roman capitals and remains largely legible despite typical die wear. The overall style is consistent with anonymous ecclesiastical issues of the late tenth to early eleventh century.
