Obverse description Stylized, schematic bust facing right in the Chartres manner, rendered in a crude, heavily abstracted style typical of early feudal French coinage. The effigy is depicted with rudimentary facial features, the head delineated by bold, irregular lines. A pellet appears to the right of the bust in the field. The overall design reflects the debased artistic conventions of anonymous feudal minting of the late tenth to early eleventh century.
