Obverse description Central device depicting the tamga or dynastic insignia of the Grand Principality of Nizhny Novgorod-Suzdal, rendered in low relief on an irregularly shaped flan typical of hammered medieval Russian coinage. The design occupies the majority of the flat field, with the emblematic motif struck somewhat off-center as is characteristic of this issue. The flan shows the rough, uneven surface common to hand-struck wire money of the late 14th century. Partial legend or inscription elements may be present around the device, though poorly preserved due to the irregular flan and die wear.
