Obverse description Within the irregular, lozenge-shaped flan typical of early Russian wire money, a mounted warrior is depicted in profile facing right, seated upon a galloping horse with forelegs raised. The rider, rendered in a flat, schematic hammered style characteristic of Muscovite coinage, raises a sabre aloft in his right hand in a striking posture. The design occupies the majority of the flan, with the horse's body and the rider's outstretched arm filling the available field. The relief is bold but somewhat irregular due to the hand-hammered production method.
