Reverse description The reverse bears a four-line Cyrillic inscription in bold, raised lettering filling the entire field of the irregular flan, reading ГОСПО / ДАРЬ / ВСЕЯ / РУСИ, meaning 'Sovereign of All Rus''. The lettering is executed in the angular, archaic Cyrillic style characteristic of Tver mint coinage of the early sixteenth century. The inscription is arranged in horizontal registers across the coin, with the text closely fitting the flan's contours. No border or decorative elements surround the legend.

Additional information

Ivan IV inherited the Tver appanage as an infant in 1485 — except he didn't, because Tver had been absorbed into the Muscovite state in that year following Ivan III's military campaign against Mikhail Borisovich. By the time these dengas were struck, "Tver" as an issuing authority was a fiction of administrative continuity, with Moscow exercising full control over production. The attribution to Ivan IV reflects his nominal title as Grand Prince of Tver, a dignity bundled into the Muscovite crown rather than any independent regional authority.
