Obverse description A mounted warrior depicted in right profile, shown on a vigorously galloping horse with raised forelegs. The rider raises a sabre aloft in his right hand in a striking pose, rendered in the characteristic flat, schematic style of early Russian wire money. The flan is irregularly shaped, as typical of hammered wire-cut coinage of the period, with the design occupying the full field.
