Obverse description Equestrian figure of the Grand Prince depicted in right profile, seated upon a galloping horse with flowing tail and raised forelegs. The rider raises a sabre aloft in his right hand in a commanding gesture, while his left hand grasps the reins. The design is rendered in the bold, schematic style characteristic of early Muscovite wire money, with the figure occupying the majority of the irregular flan.

Reverse description The reverse field is dominated by a three-line Cyrillic inscription in early Church Slavonic letterforms, preceded above by a tilde-like decorative mark or titlo. The bold, slightly irregular characters read 'КНSЬ ВЕЛIКI IВАН', meaning 'Grand Duke Ivan', and fill the flan in the characteristic manner of Muscovite wire coinage of the period. The lettering is well-struck and clearly legible despite the irregular shape of the planchet.
