Obverse description A mounted warrior depicted in profile galloping to the right, raising a curved sabre aloft in his right hand in a striking pose. The horse is shown in a vigorous full gallop with forelegs raised, rendered in the schematic style characteristic of early Muscovite wire money. The figure of the horseman is compact and stylized, consistent with the die-cutting conventions of mid-16th century Russian hammered coinage. The Cyrillic letter 'М' (denoting the Moscow mint) appears in the lower field beneath the horse. The overall design is struck on an irregular planchet typical of the chekha or wire-money production technique.
