| Obverse description | Frontal enthroned figure of the Patriarch, shown in full vestments with mitre, seated on an ornate throne and holding a crozier in the left hand; the figure is flanked by foliate or vegetal branches curling outward to either side within the inner border. A patriarchal cross appears at the top of the design above the figure's head. The overall composition is rendered in the bold, stylized Romanesque manner typical of northern Italian ecclesiastical coinage of the late 12th century. The legend runs around the outer margin of the coin. |
