Reverse description A bold cross with pine cone-tipped or budded extremities is centrally positioned within a beaded inner circle, dividing the field into four quadrants. Small pellets or ornamental devices appear at the terminals of each arm, lending the cross a distinctive floriated character consistent with late medieval Lombard coinage. The surrounding legend, in Gothic uncial script, runs continuously around the outer rim. The die work is typical of hammered billon coinage of the early fifteenth century, with characteristic irregularity in flan shape and strike.
