Reverse description The letters of the imperial name and title are arranged in cruciform fashion around a central small star, forming an implied cross in the field, all contained within a raised reeded inner border. A single wedge-shaped pellet or cuneo appears at the lower left quadrant, serving as a mintmaster's or die-cutter's mark. The circular Latin legend runs along the outer rim. The composition reflects the Hohenstaufen imperial tradition of invoking the emperor's name on subsidiary municipal coinage.
