Reverse description The reverse displays the city name PAPIA (Pavia) and the imperial title IMPERATOR distributed across the field in multiple lines, rendered in the same bold, angular letterforms found on the obverse. The inscription fills the entire coin surface without a central device, a hallmark of the Pavese denaro mezzano series. The flat, unadorned field and coarse flan edges reflect the hammered production technique used at the Pavia mint during the Ottonian period.
