Obverse description Central field depicts the Virgin Mary in half-length frontal bust, nimbate, with both arms raised in the orans posture. The figure is rendered in a hieratic Romanesque style characteristic of medieval Italian ecclesiastical coinage. A reeded inner circle frames the Virgin, separating the devotional effigy from the surrounding legend. The encircling Latin inscription reads CIVITAS AQVILЄGIA, identifying Aquileia as the issuing city.
