| Obverse description | Central Palaeologan monogram composed of a cross with four B-forms and retrograde B-forms disposed in the angles, a decorative element characteristic of Byzantine dynastic symbolism. A small star occupies each quadrant of the field, flanking the central device. The overall design reflects the hybrid Genoese-Byzantine iconographic tradition of the Lesbos coinage. The flan is irregular and the strike typical of hammered medieval bronze production. |
