Reverse description Two clasped right hands (dextrarum iunctio) grasping a legionary standard or staff in the center of the field, symbolizing the loyalty and pledged fidelity of the armies to Vitellius. The legend FIDES is inscribed in the upper field above the handshake motif, while EXERCITVVM appears in the lower field below, dividing the reverse inscription across two lines. The design is framed by a beaded border. This powerful and compact composition directly references Vitellius's reliance on Rhine legionary support for his accession. The motif of clasped hands around a standard was a well-established symbol of military concordia in Roman imperial coinage.
