| Obverse description | Laureate head of Emperor Vitellius facing left, rendered with a fleshy, naturalistic portrait characteristic of Julio-Claudian die-cutting traditions. The truncation of the bare bust is cut low, with a small globe visible at the base of the neck, symbolising imperial dominion over the world. The encircling legend reads A VITELLIVS IMP GERMAN in crisp Latin capitals distributed around the periphery of the field. The portrait conveys the emperor's corpulent features with confident, if roughly executed, workmanship typical of the Year of the Four Emperors coinage. |
