Obverse lettering PANSA
Reverse description Facing mask of the bearded Pan depicted in right profile, with characteristic pointed ears, wild dishevelled hair crowned with a wreath of pine or ivy, and a prominent beard, rendered in high relief. The legend C•VIBIVS•C•F (Gaius Vibius, son of Gaius) appears in the lower field, identifying the moneyer Gaius Vibius Pansa. The design is enclosed within a border of dots. The pairing of the Silenus and Pan masks on obverse and reverse reflects a deliberate thematic unity alluding to the Dionysiac-Panic mythological sphere.
