| Reverse description | Draped bust of a female personification, turreted and facing right, representing Pax or the personified Orbis Terrarum, shown with a mural crown of towers upon her head and drapery covering her shoulders. The figure is executed in a restrained, classical style characteristic of early Flavian reverse types. The surrounding Latin legend, reading PACI ORB TERR AVG, is distributed around the periphery of the flan and directly references the Augustan ideal of universal world peace claimed by the new Flavian dynasty. The flan is slightly irregular, as is typical of hand-struck denarii of this period. |
