| Obverse description | Laureate head of Vespasian facing right, rendered in high relief with characteristic fleshy, realistic portraiture typical of Flavian dynastic coinage. The emperor's short hair is rendered in loose strands beneath the laurel wreath, and his mature, strong-jawed profile conveys the gravitas of imperial authority. The circulating legend IMP CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG runs around the periphery in incuse Latin capitals. The flan is somewhat irregular, as is customary for hammered silver coinage of the period, with minor flatness at the edges. |
