| Obverse description | Laureate bust of Emperor Trajan facing right, draped at the shoulder, with the emperor depicted in a strong, mature portrait characteristic of early Trajanic coinage. The finely rendered laureate wreath sits atop short, curled hair, with a hint of drapery visible at the truncation. The encircling Latin legend reads IMP CAES NERVA TRAIAN AVG GERM, distributed around the periphery of the flan. The style reflects the accomplished die-cutting of the Rome Mint workshops at the outset of Trajan's reign. The flan is irregular in outline, as is typical of hammered silver coinage of this period. |
