Obverse description Laureate bust of Emperor Trajan facing right, depicted with short hair and a beard, the laurel wreath rendered in fine relief characteristic of early Trajanic coinage. The portrait is rendered in the vigorous, idealized style of the Flavian-Trajanic transition, with the emperor's paludamentum visible at the truncation. The encircling legend runs clockwise around the periphery of the flan, separated from the portrait by a plain field. The flan is irregular in outline, as typical of hammered Roman silver coinage of this period.
