| Obverse description | Laureate and draped bust of Emperor Trajan facing right, rendered in fine high relief with carefully delineated hair beneath the laurel wreath and drapery visible at the truncation of the shoulder. The emperor's strong, mature portrait features a prominent brow and resolute profile characteristic of Trajanic imperial coinage. The surrounding legend runs clockwise around the coin field, abbreviated in the standard formulaic manner of the period. The flan is irregular in outline, as is typical of hammered silver denarii of the early second century AD. |
