Additional information

Trajan's fifth consulship, held from 103 AD, coincided directly with the Dacian Wars — the two campaigns against Decebalus that would ultimately double Rome's gold and silver reserves through the plunder of the Dacian treasury at Sarmizegetusa. The mint output during this window was enormous, funding both active military operations and the monumental building programs that followed.

RIC II 80 is among the more common reverse types of the period, which itself reflects the scale of that wartime production.
