This denarius was struck in 79 AD, the year Titus became sole emperor following Vespasian's death in June — and the same year Vesuvius buried Pompeii and Herculaneum in August. The tribunician power count of VIIII and the acclamation number XIIII place this issue precisely within that compressed, catastrophic year, during which Titus also organized relief efforts for the disaster and faced a plague in Rome.
RIC II.1 #26 is a reasonably scarce type within the Titus series, his sole reign lasting only until 81 AD.
