Reverse description An eagle stands facing, with wings spread and head turned to the right, perched upon a rectangular altar or cippus at the centre of the field. The eagle, a powerful symbol of Roman imperial authority and apotheosis, is rendered with careful detail in the wing feathers and talons. Flanking the central device, the abbreviated legend COS V appears divided across the field, denoting Titus's fifth consulship. The composition is boldly struck with a plain field, consistent with the Flavian dynastic coinage produced at the Rome mint in AD 76.
