Obverse description Turreted and draped bust of Carthago personified facing right, wearing a mural crown, with a cornucopia visible behind the head. The legend encircles the bust in Latin, reading L CLODI MACRI CARTHAGO S C, identifying the issuer Lucius Clodius Macer and the city of Carthage, with the senatorial authority noted by S C. The portrait is rendered in the Roman provincial style characteristic of the short-lived North African usurpation coinage of AD 68. The drapery is rendered with cursory but recognizable folds at the shoulder.

Reverse description A facing head of Medusa at the centre of an anti-clockwise triskelion, the three bent legs radiating outward with ears of grain filling the spaces between them, evoking the symbol of Sicily. The triskelion is a traditional emblem of Sicilia and here serves as an explicit reference to the island, reinforcing the reverse legend. The composition is bold and iconic, executed in the hammered style typical of the emergency coinage struck by Clodius Macer during his revolt against Nero. The Medusa head is depicted frontally with stylized serpentine hair.
