| Reverse description | Virtus standing facing left, helmeted and in military dress, holding a spear upright in the right hand and resting the left hand on a grounded shield at her side. The figure is rendered in a simplified, somewhat schematic style characteristic of barbarous imitations, with limited detail in the drapery and armour. The reverse legend VIRTVS AVG is distributed around the periphery of the flan in partially degenerate Latin lettering. The field is plain, and the overall composition closely follows the official Roman prototype issued under Severus Alexander, though the die engraving displays noticeably cruder workmanship. The irregular flan shape and variable strike quality confirm the unofficial, non-Roman workshop origin of this piece. |
