| Additional information |
Ptolemy of Mauretania, son of Juba II and Cleopatra Selene II, issued coinage under Roman oversight as a client king — his authority real but bounded. This silver piece dates to the early years of his sole reign, before Caligula had him summoned to Rome and executed in 40 AD, an act that triggered a prolonged revolt in Mauretania and ultimately led to the province's annexation under Claudius.
The unassigned reference numbers reflect how poorly systematized Mauretanian numismatics remains. Specimens surface rarely enough that the die corpus is still incomplete.
