| Reverse description | The personification of Pietas stands facing left in the field, draped in a long stola and palla, her right arm extended in a gesture of offering or supplication. At her feet to the left stands a small lighted altar, a standard attribute of this reverse type evoking religious devotion and imperial piety. The figure is rendered in a simple, linear style consistent with the Antioch mint's provincial engraving tradition. The legend PIETATI AVG is distributed in the field on either side of the standing figure, invoking the piety of the Augustus. A beaded border encircles the entire reverse composition. |
