Obverse description Bare head of Apollo facing right, rendered in fine Hellenistic style with long wavy hair swept back and gathered, adorned with a laurel wreath. The portrait is executed with elegant sculptural depth, the flowing locks falling behind the neck in well-defined curls. The field is plain with no legend, the entire composition focusing attention on the idealized divine effigy. This portrayal of Apollo served as a deliberate propagandistic choice by Octavian, who closely associated himself with the god as his divine patron.
