Reverse description Mars, clad in full military attire including helmet and cuirass, stands facing with head turned to left; in his right hand he holds a vertical spear, while his left hand rests upon and sets a large round shield on the ground. The two-line legend MARTI VLTORI is inscribed in the field, invoking Mars as the Avenger. The composition draws on the Augustan iconographic tradition commemorating the recovery of the standards from Parthia and the dedication of the Temple of Mars Ultor.
