Obverse description Draped bust of Africa facing right, wearing the distinctive elephant-skin headdress — her scalp covered by the animal's head and trunk falling to the right — rendered in the provincial hammered style characteristic of the Macrian usurpation coinage. The effigy is presented with loose, flowing hair visible beneath the headdress, and the drapery is indicated at the truncation. A continuous Latin legend encircles the bust within a beaded border, identifying the issuing authority.
